CARTER’S CANCER FIGHT TAKES A TOUGH HIT

Baseball Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter has taken a turn for the worse in his fight against cancer. Doctors at Duke University on Thursday told Carter’s family the former Montreal Expos star has “several new spots/ tumours on his brain,” the New York Daily News reported. The paper reported Carter’s condition had deteriorated this week, with Carter suffering from severe headaches, fatigue and problems with balance. The balance issues caused a fall on Christmas Day. The Daily News, citing a family source, said doctors are trying to determine whether to cease treatment. Carter, 57, was initially diagnosed last May with an inoperable and aggressive form of brain tumours.
