CARTER’S CANCER FIGHT TAKES A TOUGH HIT

Baseball Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter has taken a turn for the worse in his fight against cancer. Doctors at Duke University on Thursday told Carter’s family the former Montreal Expos star has “several new spots/ tumours on his brain,” the New York Daily News reported. The paper reported Carter’s condition had deteriorat­ed this week, with Carter suffering from severe headaches, fatigue and problems with balance. The balance issues caused a fall on Christmas Day. The Daily News, citing a family source, said doctors are trying to determine whether to cease treatment. Carter, 57, was initially diagnosed last May with an inoperable and aggressive form of brain tumours.
