A man accused of abducting a three- year- old child last year has pleaded guilty to breaching his probation in another case.

Randall Peter Hopley, 46, pleaded guilty Monday in Cranbrook Provincial Court to breaching his probation for failing to report to his probation officer last Sept. 12.

He received a 30- day jail sentence.

The charges are unrelated to his latest charges, which arose last September when Hopley was accused of kidnapping a three- year- old Sparwood boy, Kienan Hebert.

An Amber Alert was issued hours after the sleeping boy was snatched from his bed on Sept. 7.

The boy’s father, Paul Hebert, made a public plea for his son’s safe return.

The boy was returned asleep and unharmed to the family home Sept. 11.

Shortly after Hopley was arrested across the Alberta border during a massive manhunt, he was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation and was ordered fit to stand trial.

Hopley is scheduled to return to Provincial Court in Sparwood on Feb. 20, when he will elect to be tried by judge alone or a trial by judge and jury.

He is facing charges of kidnapping, break and enter and abducting a child under the age of 14.

Hopley was convicted in 1985 of sexually assaulting a five-yearold boy and was sentenced to two years in prison.

A psychiatric report issued before his prison release warned he could offend again.
