Join us on an epic journey
Acentury ago our founders promised that The Vancouver Sun was here to stay. This weekend I invite you to help us celebrate our 100th birthday and our relationship with the community, still going strong after so many years.
The Sun is more than the journalists who produce the daily stories and photographs on these pages. It is the people in our marketing, circulation, information technology, library and business departments. It is the team that prints the newspaper at our production plant. The advertisers who share the latest information about their products and services with the help of our advertising team. The carriers who get the newspaper to your doorstep.
And it is the growing number of readers, the people who provide content across an array of platforms producing video, social media, photography, stories and blogs, all of which contribute to the vast, ongoing legacy of The Sun.
The Sun has told the story of B. C. communities through a Great Depression, world wars and booming economic times. It has documented waves of immigration, a world’s fair and an Olympic Games that captured our hearts. It has been the paper of record for generations, and continues that commitment, but now also online as vancouversun. com.
With your generosity, we have raised millions of dollars over the years for literacy programs and for needy families through charitable campaigns such as RaiseaReader and The Vancouver Sun Children’s Fund or community events like the Sun Run. We have, in short, been a vital player and part of the community.
As we mark our centenary this weekend, we hope that you will join us in celebrating this epic journey.
And, as we set out to chronicle the next century, we at The Vancouver Sun commit ourselves once again to reporting the progress and prosperity of British Columbia to the highest standard, just as our founders did 100 years ago.
Sincerely,
Kevin Bent President and Publisher, Pacifi c Newspaper Group
