Vancouver Art Gallery, 8: 30 p. m. to 1 a. m. In celebration of the often- provocative new exhibition Beat Nation: Art, Hip Hop and Aboriginal Culture, this edition the gallery’s wildly popular late- night party promises the high- energy of hiphop, with DJS/ projectionists Jackson 2 Bears and A Tribe Called Red, graffi ti/ b- boy pioneer Dedos, performance artist Skeena Reece and others.
The Harlem Globetrotters
Rogers Arena, 7 p. m. The high- flying dunkers bounce into Rogers as part of their 2012 World Tour. This year’s lineup features Paul ( Tiny) Sturgess, the world’s tallest pro basketball player at 7’ 8”; Jonte ( Too Tall) Hall, the shortest Globetrotter ever at 5’ 2”, and Fatima “TNT” Maddox, the team’s ninth female player in its history.
The Darkness
Commodore Ballroom, 9: 30 p. m. The new- school glam- rock band from Britain has reunited and will release a highly- anticipated album — their first since the 2005 — in March. Flamboyant singer Justin Hawkins, who left the band because of well- publicized cocaine and alcohol problems, has been sober “for ages” and relishes the task at hand: “We’re back to where it’s just music and the creative process.... It’s glovesoff time. I would sort of approach it more like a sportsman than an artist.” Foxy Shazam opens.
