Program prepares software professionals
>> INTENSE 16- MONTH MASTER OF SOFTWARE SYSTEMS DEGREE IS UNIQUE IN CANADA
Software systems support virtually every aspect of our daily lives, creating a strong and growing demand for highly skilled software professionals. The Master of Software Systems ( MSS) professional program at UBC helps meet this demand. The 16- month MSS program was founded by the Institute for Computing, Information and Cognitive Systems ( ICICS) in 2000 and has grown steadily since. It is made up of courses created for the program in response to industry needs, and that evolve accordingly. A four- month paid industry internship allows students to apply their new skills in a realworld setting, and often leads to permanent employment. This program is unique in Canada and possibly the world. It is open to a broad range of students — including mature students — provided they have a bachelor’s degree and strong analytical skills. Students enter the program with degrees in areas such as engineering, business, science, mathematics, medicine and arts. Sixteen intensive months later, they are equipped for success in the high- tech sector. MSS students work closely together during the program and form important networks that last well beyond graduation. Placement of MSS graduates is consistently high, with top companies such as Adobe, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, IBM, PMC- Sierra and SAP to name a few. As one recent graduate commented, “MSS is a truly unique program where students immerse in a variety of cutting- edge computer technologies in class and through the internship experience. MSS is rigorous and challenging but I secured a solid job as a reward!” For more information on the MSS Program, go to http:// www. icics. ubc. ca/ mss/
