Partnership will boost local coverage
S. U. C. C. E. S. S.’ s Evergreen News to share content with The Sun’s Chinese- language website
A new partnership between The Vancouver Sun and S. U. C. C. E. S. S. is set to bring more fresh, local content to Taiyangbao. ca, The Sun’s up- andcoming Chinese- language online newspaper.
Launched on Dec. 15, Taiyang bao.ca comprises local, national and international news, columns and photos in Chinese, along with a host of Vancouver- based community blogs.
It will partner with Evergreen News, a Chinese monthly newspaper founded by S. U. C. C. E. S. S. and a group of volunteers in 1985, to share content.
At present, Taiyangbao. ca’s audience views more than 380,000 stories, blogs and photos a month, with a growth of more than 25 per cent in the last 30 days alone.
“That’s spectacular growth,” said Paul Bucci, director of digital products, Pacific Newsgroup, for The Sun, The Province and Taiyangbao. ca.
The partnership will bring more fresh, locally reported and produced content to Chinese readers in the community, Bucci
said. “We want a strong, local voice in Chinese reflecting the local community.”
Evergreen News distributes about 8,000 copies locally and overseas each month, and the
best of its content will now start appearing on Taiyangbao. ca.
“The contents [ of Evergreen News] range from new immigrants’ orientation materials to social issues, Canadian living
and culture, and healthy living and literary writings,” said S. U. C. C. E. S. S. CEO Thomas Tam. “It has become a community project with volunteers involved in writing, editing, proofreading, marketing, distributing and fundraising.”
Taiyangbao. ca advertisements will appear in the Evergreen News, Bucci said, noting the partnership will benefit both organizations by drawing more attention to Taiyangbao. ca, while delivering more content reported by people who understand Vancouver’s Chinese culture and live in the community.
Established in 1912, The Vancouver Sun is the digital leader within the Postmedia network, the largest chain of English- language daily papers in Canada.
S. U. C. C. E. S. S., established in 1973, is one of the largest social services organizations in the province, offering settlement services, language training, business support and a variety of counselling services.
