Patricia Graham, Pacific Newspaper Group’s vice- president, digital, has been named the YWCA’S woman of distinction for business and the professions.

Graham is one of 11 women and one organization who were honoured Thursday night by the YWCA Metro Vancouver for being leaders in their fields and for paving the way for female leaders of the future.

Graham was honoured for successfully transforming The Vancouver Sun — where she was editor- in- chief for more than eight years before her promotion within the Pacific Newspaper Group — to multi- platform publishing during an era of immense change in the industry, the YWCA said in a statement announcing the winners.

Winners were from a variety of sectors, including business, health and active living, nonprofit and public sector, and environmental sustainability.

These awards “show young women that it’s possible to focus on their careers and attain senior leadership in amazing roles across the city,” said Chantelle Krish, manager of advocacy and public relations for the YWCA Metro Vancouver.

Every year the YWCA also recognizes an organization that advocates for family policies.

“The innovative workplace category is to recognize organizations that look to the needs of their employees to manage their work/ life balance by offering things like affordable child care, child care on site or flexible work hours,” Krish explained.

These types of programs allow women to move forward in their careers by giving them the opportunity to focus on those careers, she said.

This was the 29th year that YWCA Metro Vancouver has honoured local women and organizations.
