Imagine this: It’s the beginning of June, the sun is out — at least, it should be — and you’re in the mood for an early summer getaway.

What’s that? You’re a horse racing- slash- Mario Gutierrez fan, too?

If so, there may never be another time to watch the former star of Vancouver’s Hastings Racecourse go for the coveted Triple Crown aboard I’ll Have Another, which the dynamic duo can do on June 9 at the 144th running of the Belmont Stakes in New York.

Otherwise known as the Big Apple, New York provides a dizzying array of everything for the tourist, whether you’re constricted by a tight budget, or willing to spend, spend and spend some more.

Here now, for the horse racing fan of Vancouver interested in making the trek eastward to possibly witness history — there hasn’t been a Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978 — is a graphic of what it would cost you.

So, crunch the numbers. Whether you’re a regular penny pincher or a true spendthrift, a four- day visit to New York to watch Gutierrez and I’ll Have Another attempt to win the Triple Crown will cost you.

Even on the cheaper side, it should cost you, oh, around $ 942.34, and that’s not including food or transportation.

On the expensive side, providing you wish to go all- in with your money, it could cost you $ 42,694.92 — and that’s not including your wager.
