Bond with your co- workers by biking together

-

“There are enormous health benefits to cycling to work,” Dr. Richard Backus, president of Bike to Work BC, as he encouraged people to join a workplace team or even be a team of one during the provincewide Bike to Work Week Monday through next Sunday.

“Even if you only try it for one or two days a week, there is nothing to beat the feeling of freedom and exhilaration cycling through the fresh air, arriving ready for your day,” Backus said.

“And if you are having a stressful day, you will look forward to your ride home all day long.”

“We have over 22 communities participating this year throughout the province, with thousands expected to take part,” said Backus.

“One of our goals is to attract the first- time commuter cyclist; people who have been thinking about cycling to work for a while but just never got around to it.

“Well, now is the time to dust off your old bike, or buy a good secondhand one or even invest in new one; you will not regret it,” he said.

“And other than a helmet and bright lights if you are cycling at night, and perhaps a reflective vest, you really do not need any special clothing as long as you are comfortable and visible.

“More and more, we see people riding to work in their business suits and work attire, including women with their high heels.”
