The Canyon Desert development in the Okanagan community of Oliver is kicking into high gear with the recent opening of a smartly outfitted project show home.

Twelve of the 17 homes in the first phase of the project, located on the edge of the Osoyoos Indian Band’s NK’MIP Canyon Desert Golf Course, have been sold and will be completed in late summer and fall of 2012. Over the next three years, it is expected that the development will include 81 single- family resort homes in Phase 1 of the multi- phase project.

The two- and three- bedroom homes have from 1,050 to 1,550 square feet of indoor space, and over 500 square feet of outdoor living space.

The master- planned community, which will have a community centre and parks and trails, as well as the golf course, will eventually encompass more than 400 homes.

The team behind the project includes the Osoyoos Indian Band Development Corporation, Bellstar Developments Inc. and GGC Development.

“This is the first resort residential community of this calibre to be developed in Oliver,” Chief Clarence Louie of the Osoyoos Indian Band said in a prepared release.

“It will create positive spinoff benefits for Oliver and the entire South Okanagan — giving a boost to employment, shops, restaurants and other businesses.”

Ed Romanowski, president and chief executive officer of Bellstar Group Inc., said the golf villa collection “offers exceptional resort living with a focus on thoughtfully designed layouts and expansive verandas and patio spaces to enjoy the region’s enviable weather and 300 days of sunshine per year.”
