Play peek- a- boo with your skirt this summer

Sheer maxi skirts can be dressed up for evening or dressed down for day at the beach

This summer, you can sport bare legs without having to bare all.

Sheer maxi skirts are the latest warm- weather trend to make their way onto racks. On the outside, they’re see- through from waist to toe. Underneath, there’s another skirt or slip, ranging from knee- length to super short. Together, the two layers give your legs a bit of peek- a- boo playfulness.

Kari Haddad, store manager at Oak + Fort says sheer skirts are a novel take on the maxi skirt, which has been trending for the past few seasons. They’re a sexy yet sophisticated way to stay cool yet covered when the weather starts heating up.

“They’re very classic and they’re very feminine,” Haddad says. “It’s nice to have something very long that does cover [ you]. The sheerness does give it a little more flirtiness and femininity and keeps it young and fresh.”

Depending on the length of the underneath layer, Haddad says sheer skirts are an easy piece to wear for almost any occasion. They can be dressed up for an evening dinner, or they can be dressed down for a day at the beach.

For a more elegant look, try pairing the skirt with a blouse that can be tucked in to give your waist a nice figure. You can even wear an embellished top or something with a bit of sparkle.

For something more casual, try throwing on a cotton tank top. Slouchy layers or a denim jacket would look great on top, too.

Stylist Brittanee Tomkow praises the sheer skirt for its ability to flatter most body types.

“I think they’re really easy to wear because they’re flowy and they don’t cling to areas you might be self conscious about. I also think they can be a really great [ spring to summer] transition piece because they’re often found a little bit longer.”

Although she doesn’t cite any age restrictions for the sheer skirt, Tomkow does say older women need to watch the length of the skirt underneath.

And if you plan on wearing the sheer skirt to the office, you also need to take into account the height of the slit.

Both Haddad and Tomkow agree the sheer skirt makes sense for summer.

Like sheer blouses, another popular summer garment, the sheer skirt is a great way to look sultry without being overt.

“It’s a great staple for anybody, really,” Haddad says.
