Vandals spray downtown fur stores

- Christopher Reynolds, Vancouver Sun

Vandals used a mail slot and a crack in a front door to spray two downtown Vancouver fur stores with a substance that smells like sour milk, police said.

Hats, cowls and collars at Speiser Furs at 3022 Granville St. and Snowflake Furs at 750 West Pender St. were damaged earlier this week, while the store interiors reeked with a foul odour, said Vancouver police spokesman Const. Lindsey Houghton in a news release.

The suspects in both incidents wore masks, baggy clothing, large hats and gloves to hide their identities.

They sprayed the unidentified substance through Speiser’s mail slot sometime between 6 p. m. Monday and 10 a. m. Tuesday. Snowflake’s retail merchandise was hit through a crack in the front door at 3: 45 a. m. Tuesday.

The cost of the damage to both stores’ merchandise is still being calculated, Houghton said.

An incident on May 24 saw unidentified suspects carry out a similar act at a store.

The investigation into all three cases is continuing.
