PLAYERS TO WATCH

LIONS | Dante Marsh, CB

The nine- year CFL veteran knows he’s one of the more underrated defensive backs at all- star voting time, but while he might not get much love from the Football Reporters of Canada, Marsh is well- respected by coaches and players. He trains in Atlanta with Korey Banks, Byron Parker, Odell Willis, Durant Durant, Clint Kent and Blue Bombers’ receiver Terrence Edwards among others. “Marsh works harder in the gym that anyone I’ve ever seen,” Edwards said. “I don’t understand why people don’t show him more love than they do. He’s one of the best corners in this league. And I understand how much he puts into it.” Marsh made his 25th career interception Aug. 19 against Saskatchewan.

BOMBERS | Justin Sorensen, C

The fifth overall pick in the 2008 CFL draft, Sorensen was released by the B. C. Lions on cut- down day in June, 2011, along with Adam Bighill, Kierrie Johnson, Tim Cronk and Adam Baboulas. All but Sorensen eventually resurfaced with the Lions. Picked up by the Blue Bombers on Aug. 30, Sorensen spent the remainder of the 2011 season on the practice roster. He took over as the team’s starting centre in Game 2 this season when Bomber QB Buck Pierce suggested a change, because Chris Kowalczuk, the starting centre, wasn’t snapping the ball quickly enough. “I figured I’d get picked up and get another opportunity,” Sorensen said. “It’s going well. I’ve started the last six games. Happy to be in Winnipeg now.”
