Giants down Lethbridge in shootout

The Vancouver Giants came from behind Tuesday to edge the Lethbridge Hurricanes 4- 3 in a shootout for their first road victory of the Western Hockey League season. Centre Nathan Burns netted the shootout winner while goalie Liam Liston, who had lost his first six starts, made 26 saves in regulation and was a perfect 4- for- 4 in the shootout. The Giants sent the game into extra time when Dalton Sward scored with 50 seconds remaining in the third period and Liston on the bench for an extra attacker. Burns also scored in regulation for the Giants while Carter Popoff, with his career- first WHL goal, had the other for Vancouver. Marek Tvrdon added two assists for the Giants to extend his points streak to nine games. The Giants, who remain last in the league with a 4- 10- 0 record, continue their road swing through Alberta with a game Thursday night in Medicine Hat.
