Worldwide survey ranks facility eighth best in the world
The experience … ( airline) customers are going to have in Vancouver is going to be first rate.

Vancouver International Airport has once again been named the best airport in North America and the eighth best in the world, according to Geneva- based Skytrax World Airport Awards.
The awards are based on surveys conducted in airports around the world that measure 39 different areas of service and experience. More than 12 million passengers participated in the worldwide survey of 395 airports, rating everything from comfort and signage to transportation availability and passenger amenities.
Only two other Canadian airports, Toronto’s Pearson and Halifax’s Stanfield international airports made it onto North America’s Top 10 list. They placed 46th and 58th respectively in the world’s top 100 airports.
Tony Gugliotta, YVR’s senior vice- president of marketing and business development, said the award by an independent organization validated the airport’s continuous efforts to improve customer experience. He credited the Canada Line service to downtown Vancouver, the airport’s volunteer Green Jacket information service and other additions for why travellers ranked YVR so high.
Gugliotta said the award is also helping convince air carriers to consider expanding service to the area.
“I think what it does is that when we are having discussions with airlines and asking them to add capacity or are having discussions with airlines who aren’t flying to Vancouver but are looking to, we can tell them that in addition to the business case we can provide them, the experience their customers are going to have in Vancouver is going to be first rate,” he said.
The fact that YVR has won the award four times in a row is a credit to the more than 23,000 people who work at the airport and in the related airline service industries that supply it.
