AIR MILES:
CASH PROGRAM GREAT FOR FAMILIES
Kristin DeCastro makes Air Miles cash a regular part of her household budget.
The Toronto resident, who has been a dedicated Air Miles collector for more than 15 years, says the cash program is proving particularly useful to her household. “I make a point of shopping at places where I can collect Air Miles,” says the mother of two, “and I make sure that I make use of any bonus offers or coupons.”
With this in mind, she is a regular shopper at such stores as Metro, Global Pet Foods and Toys ’ R Us and makes a point of buying gasoline at Shell stations.
“Everyone in the family, including our dog, benefits from Air Miles,” says DeCastro. “The program is excellent for us.”
Rachel MacQueen, Air Miles associate vice- president of marketing, says Air Miles cash has just marked its oneyear anniversary. “We now have over a million collectors who are enjoying the flexibility of the cash program and they have received over $ 10- million worth of value from it,” she says. “It’s an exciting milestone.”
MacQueen says more sponsors are being added to the cashback program

— a number of sponsors, including Sobeys and Foodland, have just come on board. She adds that experiential rewards are also being expanded.
“We are offering collectors unique experiences such as access to celebrity chefs, dinner with Wayne Gretzky or tickets to see Celine Dion perform live in Las Vegas,” she says. “We have many different experiences, so we have something that will appeal to everyone. And, of course, travel continues to be very popular.”
The Air Miles reward program celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2012 and now has more than 10 million active collector households in Canada. Promoted as a frequent- buy rather than frequent- fly program, Air Miles is built on a coalition of sponsors and the ability to earn on everyday spending.
