5 STEPS FOR BUILDING A WARDROBE OR MOMS- TO- BE

-

It’s in the Jeans

The most essential piece in any woman’s wardrobe is her denims.

Dress ’ em up, dress ’ em down — they’ll take you almost everywhere in style. For a pregnant woman, that might mean a tradional jean with a stretchy panel insert like Destination Maternity’s Secret Fit Belly, or it might mean “jagging,” a legging that looks like denim. Look for straight, boot- cut or skinny styles in traditional dark hues as well as bright colours and fun floral prints.

Dream in Colour

The big news in fashion for spring 2013 is colour, especially intense citrus hues of lemon, tangerine and lime, as well as tropical pinks and corals, and deep ocean blues, greens and turquoise. Wear colour as a single electrifying pop against black and white, or combine hues in colour blocking or funky abstract patterns. Try a bright skinny jean, patterned maxi dress or a vivid top that you can wear with a coloured bottom or tuck under a neutral jacket.

Keep Cool

When you’re feeling big and the temperature rises, things can get a bit uncomfortable. Luckily, today’s pregnant women have plenty of cool options. As we move into the summer months, opt for a stretchy tank or tee, which can be worn under jacket or cardigan for the office. Pair it with slim- fitting stretch capris or cropped pants. Or opt for loose- fitting trousers in breathable linen or bamboo. Then slip on a comfy pair of sandals, and you’re ready to go anywhere.

Work It

As an expectant working mother herself, Myers knows what she’s talking about when she says, "Moms- to- be want maternity pieces that will accommodate heir growing bump and that will fit and flatter their shape. They so want looks that can take them from desk to dinner, and tees and cardigans that are multiurpose and easy to layer.” The key to a professional — but comfortable — office look is layering. Dresses, tops and dark legings paired with jackets and carigans are the perfect solution.

Dress Up

Chances are that over the course of nine months, you’ll have at least a couple of special events to attend. No problem. Just slip on beautiful dressy top in a shimmery fabric with lace or other feminine details, and pair it with dark leggings or jeans. Or, for dressier events, opt for the season’s stylish maxi dresses. Finish our look with a bold piece of costume jewelry. Most of all, embrace your curves. Adorn your bump. And live — beautifully — for this rare and special time.
