The eve of one of the largest 10K events in North America has arrived, and the city is alive with Sun Run buzz. Honestly, what other event in our beautiful city mobilizes this many people in one morning? I stood on that front line 29 years ago as a highperformance athlete and never would I have thought more than 45,000 people would be lining up along Georgia Street as they will on Sunday morning.

A Vision of Health You have done a fantastic job by taking on this program, adjusting your lifestyle and making RunWalk fitness an important part of your weekly schedule. What to do these next couple of days? The work is done! Rest, relax, eat good food, drink lots of water and please do not try anything new. Looking ahead to event day, be careful not to start too fast! That first kilometre down Georgia Street is a beautiful sight downhill. It’s always better to conserve in the beginning so that you have more oomph at the end. Our final webinar is today at noon. Lorne Terichow of Alliance Athletics/ Peninsula Runners will join me to discuss the little things that will make a difference for you on event day.

I wanted to share a couple of quotes that, for me, capture the essence of what you have accomplished by setting a goal and preparing for it — from participation to performance, at any level, whether you are walking or running.

“I think when you run by someone and there’s a thumbs- up or encouragement, that’s something that I really love. It’s a brotherhood, a support and an appreciation for the effort we’re all making. I think it’s also about living well, living healthy, taking care of ourselves, getting in touch with ourselves, our bodies, our minds. It’s a mind- body connection that running helps enhance.” — Gene Baur

“You have to wonder at times what you’re doing out there. Over the years, I’ve given myself a thousand reasons to keep running, but it always comes back to where it started. It comes down to self- satisfaction and a sense of achievement.” — Steve Prefontaine

You have already won. See you at the Sun Run. Remember, I’ll be there with you, every step of the way!
