Red Mountain wins World Snow Awards
London- based VOS Media recently bestowed two of its coveted World Snow Awards on Red Mountain Resort near Rossland. “The World Snow Awards recognize outstanding service to ski and snowboard consumers across categories covering resorts, travel, retail, equipment and technology,” said Henry Druce, editor of Telegraph Ski and Snowboard Magazine and chairperson for the judging committee. Though somewhat obscure when compared to mega resorts in Europe and the rest of North America, Red Mountain Resort’s recent 997- acre expansion onto Grey Mountain was a decisive factor in taking home the honours for the Most Improved North American Resort. Red bested a top- notch list of more established resorts, including Vail, Colo., Jackson Hole, Wyo., and Squaw Valley, Calif. Red’s CEO Howard Katkov says, “This marks a fi rst, as our awards, accolades and recognition are now becoming more global in scale.” Similarly, in winning the Best Upcoming Resort, Red prevailed against the short list of exceptional global resorts including, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort and Ski Juwel Alpbachtal, Wildschönau, Austria. Red Mountain Resort’s active involvement with the world’s best skiers and snowboarders over the last few years has resulted in considerable media coverage in recent ski fi lms including TGR’s Way of Life and snowboard fi lms from Think Thank and Standard Films. The 2013 World Snow Awards were presented on Nov. 1 in London, England, and were produced by VOS Media, a Telegraph Media Group company. VOS Media operates the London and Manchester Ski and Snowboard Shows and Telegraph Ski and Snowboard, the U. K.’ s best- selling ski and snowboard title.
