9 questions with ADAM HADWIN
Q: That trophy you received in Chile — I don’t know if ugly is the right word, but was it as diff erent looking as it appeared to be?
A: I have to be honest with you, I was so high after winning it didn’t matter what they handed me. I was going to hold it high and proud. A lot of people were tweeting about that, they defi nitely did not appreciate the attractiveness of the trophy, but I don’t care. It was a win.
Q: Two of your pro wins have come in South America — Colombia on the Canadian Tour in 2011 and in Chile this spring on the Web. com Tour. What’s up with that?
A: I like the women ( laughing). No, I don’t know, I think it was just a matter of playing well at that particular time.
Q: If you have to lay up on a par 5 — and I know you probably hate to do that — what is your money distance for your third shot?
A: It would be to my sand wedge yardage. Depending on where we are playing — altitude, wind and that sort of thing — it would between 95 and 105 yards.
Q: Do you have a dominant swing thought when you stand on the tee?
A: I think the biggest thing for me is I just think rhythm and tempo. If that is good, typically I’ll have good results. If I get out of rhythm, things can go sideways.
Q: You play in a lot of pro- ams now. Is there one piece of advice that you would give to your typical amateur golfer?
A: Don’t think that you are a professional. One of the biggest things you see is you give them a yardage and I know what I hit from that yardage and they are trying to hit the same club or even one lower and the chances of hitting it pure are pretty slim. You see a lot more shots come up short than you see long. Q: Best courtesy car you have had at a tournament?
A: A BMW X3 at the Canadian Open at Shaughnessy in 2011.
Q: Any accidents in a courtesy car?
A: No accidents, but I did have a courtesy car broken into, which was a bit of a nightmare.
Q: What do you do to get away from golf?
A: Not play. I just hang out with family and friends. When I got home during a recent break, my brother said ‘ you want to go and play some tennis’ and I said ‘ absolutely.’ So I’ll play some tennis or go see a movie, watch Netfl ix, go to dinners and the topic of conversation does not include golf.
Q: I know you are a big Canucks fan. What went wrong this season?
A: I am a Canucks fan. I don’t know, I wish I was able to follow it closer. I love going to the games. As a guy who plays professional sports I can understand how easy it is to not be good. Obviously I am not at their level or under the scrutiny they are, but it’s very easy for the average fan to just rip and hate. I can appreciate the fact they go in every day and try their best. Sometimes it just doesn’t happen.
