B. C. LIONS: FIVE THINGS COACH BENEVIDES WILL WATCH IN TONIGHT’S PRE- SEASON OPENER

- — Iain MacIntyre, The Vancouver Sun

QUARTERBACK

“I want to see how they operate in our tempo off ence. I want to see if we can be a profi cient off ence. We’re going to have Kevin Glenn ( pictured), John Beck and Travis Partridge, in that order. Kevin will get a little work, but most of it will go to Beck and Partridge.”

OFFENSIVE LINE

“I want to see how our off ensive line performs against speed and, specifi cally, how our left side performs. I want to see ( left guard) T- Dre Player ( pictured), who has had an outstanding camp. I want to see how ( left tackle) Andre Ramsey performs. We have open competition there.”

DEFENCE

“I need a fast, aggressive defence and I want to see if they can maintain that from Play 1 to Play 60. I want to make sure we can cover and run to the football. The mantra is run, hit and be nasty, and I want to see that part of DNA. You’re going to see a lot of young people.”

SPECIAL TEAMS

“I need to see battles for the special- teams roles and which players will take the jobs. Pascal Lochard, Boo- boo ( Guillaume) Bourassa, Akwasi Antwi, Alex Hoff man- Ellis, Korey Jones, Casey Chin ( pictured). I have several jobs open and who are going to be the soldiers on special teams to highlight themselves?”

RECEIVER- RETURNERS

“I want to take a look at Jabin Sambrano versus Bryan Burnham ( pictured) at the receiver position. Sambrano will have some opportunities as a returner as well, as will ( running back) Keola Antonin. I want to see those three guys compete.”
