A pilot project just for Dad
If a facial isn’t up your father’s alley, how about a behind- the- scenes tour of Vancouver International Airport? The special Father’s Day tour includes airside access to the airport manoeuvring area, a place normally restricted to airport employees. Get up close and experience aircraft taxiing next to the apron and nearby runways in a private 16- passenger van. A fully- certified Airside Safety Officer, whose responsibilities include emergency and operational response, airport system inspections and airside safety, will lead the trip and talk about runway safety, the FOD ( foreign object debris) program, wildlife control, winter operations, emergency response and cargo operations. The 45- minute excursions, available at 11 a. m., noon and 1 p. m. tomorrow, is $ 30 for adults, $ 20 for children ( 16 years and under) and includes lunch before or after the tour at the award- winning Globe restaurant at The Fairmont Vancouver Airport. Menu items include a half- pound jet-side-- burger with applewood smoked cheddar cheese and tempura fried banana peppers, a pulled pork sandwich with sweet onions and a chili lime aioli, or a fish taco with fresh cod, lettuce, tomatoes, cilantro, red onions, and jalapeño aioli. Reservations can be made by calling the hotel at 604- 207- 5200, and valid government- issued photo identification is required ( i. e., a driver’s licence, or passport for ages 16 and up. A passport or school photo identification is required for children under 16 years of age).
