Police die, mistresses have issues
Line of Duty: This U. K. police corruption drama returns for a second season of six one- hour episodes focused on corruption among Britain’s finest. The season begins explosively with the ambush of a police convoy in which three cops are killed and a witness under protection is seriously injured. The sole surviving officer is Det. Insp. Lindsay Denton ( Keeley Hawes), which may switch him from AC- 12’ s most valuable witness to its prime suspect. Det. Steve Arnott ( Martin Compston) and Kate Fleming ( Vicky McClure) are assigned to the case. ( Super Channel — 8 p. m.)
Mistresses: The tension continues between Savi and Harry ( Alyssa Milano, Brett Tucker) in the new episode Open House. Savi also has more problems at work, the bulk of them generated by Toni ( guest star Rebeka Montoya). Mickey ( guest star Joseph May) proves to be a major help to April ( Rochelle Aytes) when she must stage a big event at the private school Lucy ( guest star Corinne Massiah) now attends. ( CTV — 8 p. m., ABC — 11 p. m.) I enjoyed the Turner Classic Movies’ 20th- anniversary special. Who was the actress Robert Osborne wrote questions out for? — Sally Anderson That was Luise Rainer, a winner of best actress Oscars for The Great Ziegfeld ( 1936) and The Good Earth ( 1937). She was 100 years old at the time, and as close as Osborne was sitting to her, she couldn’t hear him — partly because her hearing aid was broken. So he waited for something to write on.
