An English backpacker got a nasty surprise after returning home from a summer of volunteering in Tanzania. Matthew O’Donnell was hanging out on his bed in East Sussex when a flea suddenly burst out of his foot, along with hundreds of little eggs. The chigoe flea — the smallest variety known to science — had nested under the skin near his little toe. The 22- year- old Plymouth University graduate got checked out by a doctor, and will just have a small scar. Rock groupies agree that it would be more fun to have Flea, the Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist, on your bed.
