TOUGH LOSS

Seattle is locked in a battle with the Los Angeles Galaxy for the MLS Supporters’ Shield that goes to the top team in the regular season. Both teams had 60 points coming into the weekend — the Galaxy play at FC Dallas on Sunday — and meet home- and- away on the fi nal two weeks of the regular season. The Sounders had hoped to get a leg up by beating Vancouver and things looked good when they decided to open up CenturyLink Field to full capacity Friday. In home games with more than 40,000 in the stands, the Sounders were 11- 0- 3. They got 55,765 on Friday night, the most ever for a game featuring Vancouver, but 96 per cent of them left disappointed as the high- scoring Sounders were shutout for just the fi fth time in 2014.
