THE SKINNY

-

When Gambian teenager Kekuta Manneh, right, who got the start at forward for the suspended Sebastian Fernandez, went down hard in the 44th minute after being hit by the Sounders’ Obafemi Martins, it looked like he might not be able to continue. After being attended to on the fi eld by club physios, Manneh limped to the sideline. But he was waved back a few seconds later, just in time to race down the left wing and take a perfect lead pass from Pedro Morales. He had gone 17 games without a goal, but he fi nished this chance with all the coolness of a 20- goal scorer. It was the only goal the Whitecaps would need in a 1- 0 victory. “I was in pain, but I felt like I had a chance to go and score a goal,” said Manneh, who didn’t have it in him to do any kind of celebratory dance. He was subbed off at halftime.
