Protect visionary land reserve
Re: New Royal Society inductee praises how ALR has shaped city’s food scene, Dec. 26
It was wonderful to see the story on Prof. Lenore Newman, a Royal Society inductee, and the Agricultural Land Reserve. As the article states “The Fraser Valley would be a concrete wasteland … if not for the Agricultural Land Reserve.” This is equally true in many other regions of B.C.
It would be great for residents of B.C. to give a moment of thanks to former NDP premier Dave Barrett and his government who took this courageous and visionary action against strong establishment opposition in the 1970s.
Let’s all work together to stop any more erosion of the ALR by the sitting Liberal government, which appears to have no commitment to the core principle of protecting agricultural lands. GERRY SCOTT Vancouver
