FIGHTING THE COLD
Despite the ice developing on her face, Treashure Whitney-Taylor walks to Trinity First Elementary School on Monday in Minneapolis, Minn. A Yale University study has found that when core body temperature inside the nose falls by 5 C, the immune system has a tougher time fighting off the rhinovirus, the most frequent cause of the common cold. So wearing a warm scarf over the nose may not stop the virus entering in the first place, but could boost the body’s ability to tackle it. The study was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
