Vancouver Sun

A bolder, brighter Sun today

Our newspaper and newsroom continue to evolve in response to your needs

- Harold Munro EDITOR

You hold in your hands a copy of the first edition of The Vancouver Sun printed on a new press.

As I explained in a letter last week, the newspaper is being printed in a format that is slightly narrower and shorter than the traditional broadsheet, designed for greater ease of reading and convenience. The accompanying graphic illustrates the difference in page size.

Our new presses on Annacis Island produce a newspaper that is cleaner, more colourful and easier to handle wherever you read us. Reproduction of words and images has improved, and we can now use colour on every page, including the daily comics.

The TV Times section on Friday changes in size from tabloid to broadsheet. This will likely be the most significant difference you notice as the week unfolds. The section will contain television listings and more concise movie summaries. The separate sports listings run daily in the Sports section.

All of your favourite reporters and columnists are still here, and the newspaper is organized in the same way.

You will find local news, features and columnists in Section A. National and international news, and our opinion pages, are in Section B.

Watch for local business news and analysis Tuesday through Saturday; and daily sports coverage, with expanded, feature-oriented sections every Saturday and Monday.

Arts and Life focuses on lifestyle content on Monday, personal health on Tuesday, food and wine on Wednesday, the Scene arts and entertainment section on Thursday and movies on Friday.

Columnists Vaughn Palmer and Malcolm Parry are trading places on the weekend: Palmer and the editorial page are being relocated to the A section.

Parry has a new home on Page 2 in Weekend Review.

What do you think? I’m interested in your feedback.
