Brewery and the Beast is sold out and ready to grill

- MIA STAINSBY

Summertime and the livin’ is meaty. And fish are not jumpin’.

That, at least, is the case at the annual Brewery and The Beast, an orgy of meat, cooked by the city’s best chefs. Some 48 restaurants will be on deck with barbecues, smokers, grills, skewers, giant rotisseries and sauté pans showcasing ethically raised, quality meats.

Sounds great if you were on the ball and bought tickets early to this sold-out event.

If you don’t have tickets, or do and still want a taste of the beasty offerings at home, we rounded up three of the chefs to contribute their meat recipes. Their dishes won’t be exactly the same as the recipes because food at the event is kept hushhush. Grab some friends, some brews and have your own little brew and beast.

The Vancouver event takes place Sunday (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.) at the usual venue, the vast, paved Concord Pacific expanse at 88 Pacific Blvd.

Every year, new restaurants come on board and this year, newcomers include Medina, Boulevard, Cinara, Au Comptoir and others. (See breweryandthebeast.com for a full list.)

For those who scored tickets, the lineup to get in is long and snakey, so arrive early. As always, the most tantalizing dishes create the longest lines, but hanging out is part of the fun.

There will be live music by The Electric Timber Company & Guests and lots of people-watching to keep you entertained.

This year, Calgary joins Victoria and Vancouver in hosting the annual event. Calgary’s version is on Aug. 23, and Victoria’s is on Sept. 27.
