A special weekend of car shows and races
A car nut’s dream — 15 events and one race, jam-packed with cool stuff to do
Last weekend started with a quick trip to Chilliwack to take some pics of an amazing 1969 Mach I Mustang, with the dual-quad 428 CobraJet V8, that had been ordered new by a pilot from Cold Lake, Alta.
Campbell Murray bought it after its front end was ripped off in an accident, and restored it to its former glory and then some. I even got to snap a great burnout shot … because this is more than a show car!
My wife and I then continued on to complete most of the “Circle Farm tour.” From tire smoke to smoked sausage, it was a perfect day.
Sunday, I hit the races at Mission Raceway park at the road course, a great way to spend the day with your family. The pits are open and the drivers friendly, with lots of knowledge and passion for their sport.
In one race, eight different classes of cars raced together … but the 2012 “BSpec Honda Fit” did not have a chance against the 2006 Porsche GT3 Cup racing in GT2 class. The Formula Continental race had a dozen entrants, the most since the old Westwood days!
One lady I spoke to, who was racing a 1990 Honda Civic in the IPE class, started racing at age 62, because she didn’t know how to knit!
It was a special day at the track, with rides in high performance cars being donated to soon-to-be scared passengers. All the money went to the Ronald MacDonald House BC.
The BCHRA was holding a car show at Langley’s Willowbrook Shopping Centre and it was full of very cool cars when I finally got there. Although the BCHRA members have some pretty amazing cars, other cars were also on hand and I got to wear out my shutter taking pictures.
This weekend, there are 15 car events and one race. On Saturday in Metro Vancouver, we have only the races for us Carnuts, but Sunday is jam-packed with cool stuff to do.
I will be travelling from one of my friend’s shows in Port Moody at Newport Village, back to Surrey where lots of my friends are putting on the Camaro Club car show open to all, and then to see another pal, “G,” and his luxurious car show and hop in Delta.
I am already getting hungry ... the South Surrey Morgan Crossing Camaro show is right next to Famosa Pizza … so bring a kid and an appetite with you.
