Bohemian rhapsody

West Coast fashion brand delivers cosy chic

- MICHELE MARKO

Q What is Jackson Rowe?

A Jackson Rowe is a woman’s collection of scarves, clothing and accessories. It is casual lifestyle wear with a West Coast bohemian flare. The brand ranges to include scarves, clothing, capes, kimonos and all things cosy.

Q How did it come about?

A I had been a wholesale fashion representative for several years and I loved being in the industry, but I wanted to be more involved on the creative side. One day I was playing with the concept of creating a brand name and I was envisioning it as “comfort food for your closet.” I started thinking about what makes me cosy and warm, and all I could think about was getting a big bear hug. This led me to thinking about love and family, and right away my grandparents popped into my head. I started saying their names over and over: Jack and Rose, Jack and Rose, Jack and Rose. Then I heard it — Jackson Rowe — and I ran with it.

Q Does the brand reflect your personal esthetic?

A I am a yogi, a tomboy, and a bit of a hippy all in one. I love my oversized, comfortable clothes. Jackson Rowe is all about being fashionable and comfortable at the same time. Our pieces are favourites dressed up at a music festival and are equally at home snuggling on the couch.

Q How has the brand grown since you started?

A It’s been so incredible watching the brand grow. I started selling scarves out of my studio apartment, and three quick years later I have an amazing showroom, an online store and international customers. I owe so much to social media and my amazing followers, who do such a fantastic job at hashtagging Jackson Rowe. I have been so fortunate to work with some very talented photographers, models and graphic designers who help to express the story and feeling of the brand.

Q Do you design and make the line in Vancouver? Or is it produced elsewhere?

A I have been designing in Vancouver and producing in California and China. I am thrilled to announce that for the Spring 2016 collection, we are bringing production to Vancouver.

Q What materials do you prefer to work with?

A In the fall and winter seasons, I prefer to work with acrylics. This keeps the pricing affordable, yet it still gives a cashmere feel to the garments. In the spring and summer seasons, I work with organic cottons and bamboo.

Q What’s new for fall/winter this season?

A I am really excited about this season. My favourite new blanket scarf is called the Wanderlust. It is super oversized and can be worn multiple ways. It can even be used as a throw on your couch. It’s finished with a whip stitch trim that completes it perfectly.

Q What’s the price point and retail locations for the line?

A The line ranges from $40$120. It can be found at both locations of Kiss and Makeup, YYoga, Semperviva, Pacific Boarder, Hills Of Kerrisdale, and Lynn Steven. Or online at jacksonrowe.ca.
