B.C. sets new goals for growth in farming, food processing and seafood production:

Increases in production, processing and trade sought by 2020

More crops

Increase productive farmland by 91,000 hectares over the 2.6 million hectares that are currently in use for agricultur­e.

Grow exports

Build internatio­nal markets by $800 million from the current base of $3 billion.

More fish

Increase production in aquacultur­e by 14 per cent and boost the value of the wild fishery by 13 per cent.

Buy local

Grow domestic demand for B.C. products by 43 per cent ($2.3 billion) through Buy Local promotions and local procuremen­t by retailers and public institutio­ns.

Break down barriers

Expand interprovi­ncial trade opportunit­ies recently achieved for B.C. wine to other products, for an increase of 27 per cent ($1.1 billion) in revenue.
