Call a new election

Liberals have already reneged on their promises

-

Now that it’s clear Justin Trudeau’s Liberals will be unable to keep their two biggest campaign promises, could we please have another election?

During the election campaign and against all reason, Trudeau insisted the Liberals would re-settle 25,000 Syrian refugees in Canada by the end of the year. He also insisted he could cut taxes for the middle class and pay for it by raising taxes on wealthier people. Since the election, the estimates for re-settling refugees has been dramatically scaled back, and Trudeau’s own finance minister is now projecting the promise to cut middle class tax rates will cost the public purse approximately $1.2 billion.

Trudeau and the Liberals either lied to get elected, or they are so naive they simply weren’t ready to take the reins of power. Either way, every Liberal MP should now do the honourable thing by either resigning their own seats voluntarily, or asking the Governor General to dissolve Parliament and hold another election.

Of course, this would put a hold on important Trudeau initiatives such as legalizing marijuana, tackling unproven climate change issues, and chickening out in the fight against ISIL, but at least we will have a better shot at electing a government that gives us the straight goods during the campaign.
