Runners have special needs: Here’s what they need

- JORDAN BOWMAN

Yurbuds Leap 100 wireless earbud headphones

($129.99, Best Buy): Runners are meant to have their tunes, but not meant to deal with unruly headphone cords getting tangled. Enter these wireless beauties. The built-in microphone features one-touch music, volume and call controls compatible with most smartphones. These headphones last up to 5.5 hours on a single charge, so unless they are going on a truly epic run, the hits will keep on coming.

T.H.E. Sock for men or Speed Sock Silver for women

($18, lululemon): The runner on your list will absolutely appreciate you looking out for their feet. These high-performance socks are made with Silverescent technology, which inhibits the growth of odour-causing bacteria during even the sweatiest workouts. They also feature foot-specific ErgoToes design and tremendous arch support. Like a mattress is a great investment for sleep, the right pair of socks can have positive long-term benefits for your favourite runner.

High Density Foam Roller

($29, Walmart): After a hard day hitting the pavement, a session with a foam roller can alleviate tons of tension in the muscles. Regular massage therapy can be pretty pricey, but a foam roller is a great alter- native that keeps muscles elastic, healthy and ready to run at a moment’s notice.

SPIbelt

($29, Mountain Equipment Co-op): A “small, personal items belt” is an incredibly handy thing to have when out on a run. This highly popular accessory holds items securely in place during a run without distraction. It features expandable Spandex pockets which can hold keys, money clips and, most important, cell phones. It’s always a great idea to have a way to contact someone when out on a run. Thanks to the SPIbelt, a runner will never have to sacrifice comfort for storage.

Running Room Virtual Gift Card

This is the perfect gift for the last-minute shopper. Upon credit approval, the gift card will be emailed to the recipient and can be used either in store or online. The best part is the virtual gift card never expires, so even if it’s a bit chilly for new running gear now, come spring the runner on your list is totally covered.

Stocking Stuffer: Jelly Belly Sport Beans

($2.29, The Running Room): Although you might not think jelly beans would be a great gift for a runner, these tasty treats are packed with nutrients that will energize a weary runner. Each bag contains carbs, electrolytes and vitamins B and C. Jelly Beans that are clinically proven to maximize physical performance? Yes, please!
