THE SKINNY

Daniel Sedin scored the winner at 9:24 of the third period, redirectin­g an Alex Edler pass past New York goalie Henrik Lundqvist for his 13th of the season. Thirty seconds earlier, New York defenceman Dan Boyle had tied the game on a penalty shot. Edler had given the Canucks a 1-0 lead when he scored on a 5-on-3 power play at 3:19 of the third. The Canucks are now 11-11-8 on the season.

BY THE NUMBERS

Alex Edler, who finished with a goal and an assist, had a team-high six shots for the Canucks. He also logged a team-high 24:43 of ice time ... New York had a 27-26 edge in the faceoff circle. Henrik Sedin went 11-11. Henrik and Daniel Sedin both finished with two points on the night ... The Rangers had a 33-25 edge in shots.

THIS AND THAT

Last season, the Canucks feasted on the Eastern Conference, going 21-10-1. This season, not so much. Vancouver is now 5-7-3 against Eastern Conference opponents ... The Utica Comets, Vancouver’s AHL affiliate, beat the Rochester Americans 4-3 Wednesday in a shootout. Alex Friesen, Linden Vey and Andrey Pedan scored for the Comets. Vey and Nicklas Jensen both scored in the shootout as Utica improved to 11-9-2-1 this season.

DID YOU NOTICE?

Rookie Jared McCann saved a goal at the 15-minute mark of the second period. Ranger centre J.T. Miller took a backdoor pass and had Vancouver goalie Ryan Miller out of position. But Miller’s shot hit the left skate of McCann, who had his back to the play, and the puck just missed the open net ... Defenceman Dan Hamhuis took a Dan Boyle shot to the head and left the game at 12:27 of the third period. He did not return.

WHO’S NEXT

The Canucks, who don’t play again until Sunday, get Thursday as a second day off this week. They head out on a six-game road trip Saturday that begins Sunday in Chicago and continues with games Tuesday in Minnesota, Thursday in Philadelph­ia, Friday in Detroit, next Sunday afternoon in Florida and the following Tuesday in Tampa Bay. The Canucks are 6-5-5 on the road this season.
