B.C. SPORTS HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES

The following will be formally honoured at a banquet next June 9:

ATHLETE: DAVE BARR, golf: Kelowna native won two PGA Tour events and recorded 39 top-10 finishes between 1978 and 2002. Was the first Canadian to top $2 million in career earnings. DAVE CUTLER, football: The Victoria product kicked for the Edmonton Eskimos for 16 seasons, winning six Grey Cups and retiring in 1994 as the then-leading scorer (2,237 points) in pro football history. GERI DONNELLY, soccer: A member of Canada’s first women’s national team, Donnelly scored the first two goals in the squad’s history. Made 71 appearance­s for the national team. STEVE NASH, basketball: Backto-back NBA MVP in 2005 and 2006 and a three-time winner of the Lionel Conacher Award as Canadian male athlete of the year. An eight-time NBA all-star. CARL VALENTINE, soccer: Ranks third in points in Vancouver Whitecaps/86ers history with 65 goals and 69 assists. Earned 31 caps for Canadian national team, playing in all three World Cup games in 1986. BUILDER/COACH: WALLY BUONO, football: Has served as B.C. Lions’ general manager since 2003, earning Grey Cup titles as head coach in 2006 and 2011. Two-time CFL coach of the year while with B.C. DIANE CLEMENT, athletics: Co-founder of the Richmond Kajaks track and field club and The Vancouver Sun Run. Involved in six Olympic Games as an athlete, team manager and media liaison. ALLISON McNEILL, basketball: Head coach of SFU women’s team from 1988 to 2001 (363-79 win-loss record) and head coach of Canadian women’s national team from 2002 to 2012. TEAM: 1994-95 KAMLOOPS BLAZERS, hockey: WHL champions went 4-0, including an 8-2 win over Detroit in the final, to win the 1995 Memorial Cup. Sent several players to the NHL, including Jarome Iginla, Shane Doan and Darcy Tucker. PIONEER: HARRY MANSON, soccer: Trailblazi­ng aboriginal player from Nanaimo from 1897 to 1905. One of the first aboriginal players to play in a B.C. provincial championsh­ip final. MEDIA: WENDY LONG: Covered amateur and Olympic sport for The Vancouver Sun for two decades. Was one of the few female sports writers at a major Canadian daily during the 1980s and ’90s. W.A.C. BENNETT AWARD: ARTHUR GRIFFITHS: One-time owner of the NHL Vancouver Canucks, brought the NBA to Vancouver. Financed building of General Motors Place (now Rogers Arena) and was chair of the Vancouver/Whistler 2010 Bid Society.
