Vancouverites will once again take a break from winter — or what we call winter — with the Winterruption festival on Granville Island, slated for Feb. 19-21.

The festival features a host of family-friendly activities covering arts, film, food and music.

Highlights this year — the festival’s 11th edition — include a one-man Batman-themed show called One-Man Dark Night: A Batman Parody; a screening of the documentary A Ballerina’s Tale, about Misty Copeland, the first African-American principal dancer for American Ballet Theatre; brewery and distillery tours; and the Winterruption Donut Spectacular, hosted by Lee’s Donuts.

Coastal Jazz is hosting ticketed performances by Tanga (Feb. 19) and Alejandra Ribera (Feb. 20), as well as free concerts featuring the likes of Elkhorn, Grdina/ Houle/Loewen, The End Tree and Sick Boss. All concerts take place at Performance Works.

More than 40 events and activities are available. For more information about Winterruption and details for ticketed events, visit winterruption.com.

Those looking forward to the summer already will want to note the dates for the third edition of the Pemberton Music Festival, slated to take place July 14-17.

The popular festival, which features an array of music and comedy, was attended by more than 115,000 last year, with performances including Kendrick Lamar, The Black Keys, Missy Elliott and more.

Performers for the festival’s third edition have not yet been revealed.

Tickets, however, will go on sale Friday, Jan. 15 at 10 a.m. via the festival’s website, pembertonmusicfestival.com.

Prices range from $270 for an early bird four-day pass to $1,499 for a “Super VIP” pass that includes camping or shuttle service.

For non-VIP ticket holders, camping passes are now “per site” and can accommodate up to four people at once. A regular camping pass is priced at $199 for the weekend.

Parking passes are $29 per car, while those who prefer to take a shuttle from Whistler can buy a shuttle pass for $99 per person.

“We’re very excited to be returning for a third year to the world’s most beautiful festival setting,” A.J. Niland, chairman and CEO of Huka Entertainment, said in a press release.

“We look forward to continuing to grow Pemberton Music Festival with world class artists, passionate fans and the welcoming Village of Pemberton.”
