Ron Simmer
As part of the 22-artist group show Luminescence, celebrating light, sculptor Ron Simmer’s installation, Snow Falling, shines bright. Using mirrors, programmable LEDs and computer technology, Simmer’s infinity room immerses visitors into an experience akin to being lost in a snowstorm in space. Snow Falling, which takes over part of a small room, is a prototype for a future work: an entire gallery transformed into an infinity room with interactive strobes, lasers, neon and pulsing LEDs “to mimic a hallucinatory experience.” Standing in Snow Falling is trippy but also meditative; it creates a state of self-awareness of the process of seeing, and through that, brings participants into the “presence” of the moment.
