The Vancouver Sun leaps forward

- Harold Munro Harold Munro Editor, The Vancouver Sun

The Vancouver Sun is a morning ritual for newspaper readers across the region who welcome us daily on their doorsteps.

We remain incredibly grateful for your continued readership and for the large and growing audience finding us on other platforms.

Over the years The Sun has evolved into so much more than the print edition, and today reaches in excess of one million Metro Vancouver readers weekly through the newspaper, computers, smartphones and tablets.

We now understand these different audiences better than ever thanks to a survey undertaken by Ipsos on behalf of Postmedia, The Sun’s parent company.

The survey gave us an unprecedented look at what readers were consuming on all of our products.

For example, we learned that newspaper readers have the strongest connection to the Vancouver Sun brand and are deeply engaged in local issues as volunteers and community builders. They read primarily in the morning. They tend to be older than readers on computer and mobile, and appreciate longform storytelling, analysis and original content.

On the other hand, our smartphone consumers on average are younger and graze on shorter bites of news and information throughout the day.

There are many valuable insights in the Ipsos research related to content preferences, and where and when people like you are reading The Sun. This research has helped us identify what to emphasize on each device.

The evolution of The Sun takes a significant leap forward next week when we roll out a sleek redesign for our print edition and website, as well as a new mobile app.

These upgrades will help us serve your needs better.

Our core commitment to you doesn’t change. We will remain focused on providing quality, fair and balanced reporting on life in this community and around B.C.

Please watch here for more on Monday.
