Building on a minister’s memory
Re: Former Liberal cabinet minister killed in plane crash, March 30
I will always remember the former Federal Minister of Transportation, the Honourable Jean Lapierre, as a visionary. He was the co-founder of the Asia Pacific Gateway, which has provided jobs and prosperity to Vancouver and British Columbians.
I would like a road-rapid transit bridge built between YVR (Sea Island) and UBC (Endowment Lands) in his honour and let the proposed UBC Line end at Vancouver International Airport instead of UBC campus. Construction will begin on Sea Island and when completed all dirt from the excavation along the Broadway Corridor will be hauled away by rail cars, street block by street block, and then used to reinforce the dike around YVR. The savings generated by using rail (rather than expensive and inefficient trucks) during the construction of the proposed UBC Line can finance the bridge. I would like the bridge to be named in Jean Lapierre’s honour.
