When my kids came home for Easter weekend, it was music to my ears. After our morning coffee, the first order of the day was to get outside for a run together. Of course, these days they have to slow down to accommodate their dear mom’s pace, but nobody was worried about how fast we were going. We cruised together along the promenade at the beach with the sun shining and those cherry blossoms in full bloom. Kite-boarders out on the water and even an eagle was high on his perch taking it all in. I swear, I couldn’t wipe that smile off my face. It’s true — the family that’s active together stays together, and the poached eggs on toast afterwards never tasted better. I’m sure your friends and family have noticed your newfound fitness and commitment to your RunWalk program, and perhaps some of them have already jumped on board with you or they’re at least thinking about it. By now, you’re experiencing an ease when you walk or run. You no longer doubt your ability to complete a workout, and if the Sun Run were tomorrow, you know you’d be able to complete it no problem. And you are absolutely right. You are now fit, strong, and able to find your rhythm. Your accomplishment is all your own — being able to share it with friends and family is the bonus. Folks, the work is definitely done, but please don’t test yourself over 10K until Vancouver Sun Run day. Enjoy how sweet it is to know these final workouts are only there as icing on the cake.
