ZOMBIE SHOW FINALLY FINDS ITS SEA LEGS
FEAR THE WALKING DEAD Returns Sunday | AMC
In polite society, speaking ill of the dead just isn’t done. In apocalyptic society, however, you can speak ill of the undead all you want. Just be prepared for them to wreak their revenge on your subconscious.
“I actually had a dream about a zombie that was eating me the other day,” says Dave Erickson, showrunner and executive producer of Fear the Walking Dead. “I don’t know what that means, exactly — actually it’s pretty obvious what that means. But it’s been just one dream so far.”
Fear the Walking Dead, AMC’s prequel to its zombie hit The Walking Dead, is set to stagger in with Season 2 this Sunday, somewhat obliged to prove itself.
First, with a season expanded to 15 episodes from six, it’s up against HBO’s Game of Thrones for Sunday night ratings. And after debuting with the highest-rated cable premiere ever (10.1 million people tuned in), ratings slipped as the show crafted its story about what happens before the zombie apocalypse. Actual zombies appeared only in the final few episodes.
That said, it’s fair to say viewers had been dreaming of a few walkers themselves for most of Season 1. But as Season 2 begins, zombies are a real threat and the families at the core of the show are fleeing a burning Los Angeles aboard the yacht of the mysterious Victor Strand (Colman Domingo).
Also new this season are fresh faces. So far, reports say that actors Arturo del Puerto, Veronica Diaz, Dougray Scott and Daniel Zovatto will make appearances on the show.
As for who’ll join Griselda (Patricia Reyes Spindola) and Liza (Elizabeth Rodriguez) as Fear the Walking Dead fatalities? Erickson can’t say, but it’s likely the cast members already know if their characters are fated to be zombie hors d’oeuvres.
