Aquifer report for Peace River
Geoscience B.C. has released the first big data reports from its aerial mapping project of Peace River region aquifers to the public, broadening access to the information for more researchers, the agency said Wednesday. The reports don’t contain final results, said Carlos Salas, vice-president for energy at Geoscience B.C., but the agency is releasing its raw data “to have more eyes looking at the information.” The data is from an airborne electromagnetic survey of 8,000 square kilometres of land between Hudson’s Hope, Fort St. John and Pink Mountain, which will be used to generate 3D mapping of subsurface geology. Salas said the aim is a better understanding of where aquifers are and how water might flow riverlike through underground patterns of gravel and till.
