HOSPITALIZED BRALEY WILL MISS GALA

-

B.C. Lions owner David Braley remains in hospital with an undisclosed illness and will miss tonight’s annual Orange Helmet Awards dinner, a Lions-sponsored fundraiser for amateur football in the province. Braley, who turns 75 on May 31, was admitted to hospital for tests on March 24 after “feeling a little under the weather,” according to a Lions media statement. The Hamilton, Ont., businessman was in town to visit with club executives and attend a meeting of the Waterboys, a group of business people and civic leaders who support the CFL team, when he became ill. The Lions said then there would be no further comment on his condition. “He’s making improvement, yes,” Lions head coach and GM Wally Buono said Wednesday. “I’ve visited him. Other than that, it’s not fair to say anything because of confidentiality.” Braley has operated the Lions since 1997 and was owner of the Toronto Argonauts from 2010 to 2015 before the club’s sale to Bell Media and Larry Tanenbaum.
