TORONTO FC’S PAYROLL MORE THAN TRIPLE VANCOUVER’S

The Whitecaps are 1:30 p.m.h-highest spenders in MLS based on playersala­ry informatio­n released Thursday by the MLS Players Union. Toronto FC, which is shelling out nearly US$21.8 million, has the league’s largest payroll, more than triple the Caps’ $6.6 million. Orlando City star Kaka remains the league’s highest-paid player at close to $7.2 million in total compensati­on, which includes bonuses. Reigning MLS MVP Sebastian Giovinco from Toronto FC is right behind Kaka and he’s one of three Toronto players in the top 10 along with Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore. New York City also has three players in the top 10 — Frank Lampard, David Villa and Andrea Pirlo, all close to $6 million — while the L.A. Galaxy have three of the league’s top 11 earners. Vancouver’s highest-paid player remains Pedro Morales at $1.26 million, while the team’s biggest raises since last summer went to Matias Laba ($720,500) and Cristian Techera ($345,000). Newcomers Masato Kudo ($314,000), Blas Perez ($215,000) and Christian Bolanos ($253,500) all had their salaries revealed. The Caps’ biggest steal so far is on-loan fullback Fraser Aird, who shows up at $58,625. The Glasgow Rangers are rumoured to still be paying some of his salary. According to Jonathan Tannenwald of Philly. com, the average MLS salary is close to $317,000, up almost $25,000 from last year. The median MLS salary is $117,250, up $5,250 from last year.
