FITNESS GURU HAS HER METHOD

Viking training program will help you smash your personal goals, writes

- Aleesha Harris.

Q You’re the pioneer of the Viking Method. What exactly is that?

A The Viking Method is a no-gimmick functional training method that uses specific exercises paired and timed in a certain way that forces you to fire up more muscle fibres, utilize more oxygen and energy. ... I named it The Viking Method because I come from Iceland and, therefore, am a Viking. It is also because of what it represents both physically and psychologically — that we train for who we are and what we can do.

Q Does the method focus on one body area over another?

A Core work is very important and is done in a way where the core is the connector and not a separate unit. It takes into account your hormones; activating the “good” ones and deactivating the “bad” ones, which is crucial both in your training and nutrition. The Viking Method is a performance-based method. We set goals and challenges and have the time of our lives smashing them.

Q What motivated you to create this method?

A My main goal has always been to make people feel good about themselves — to help them realize that they are a true force to be reckoned with. I started my online training programs so that more people could do my method. To give them high quality training and nutritional plans, knowledge and motivation without the massive cost of a personal trainer.

Q Much like fashion, the fitness industry has trends too. What are some of the biggest workout trends in fitness?

A It’s shifting from looks to performance, which is fantastic. Strong not skinny, resistance training and high- intensity func- tional training are the biggest workout trends. And these are by far one of the best ways to train as it increases your overall fitness level, gives you a lean, toned physique and brings about mental contentment.

Q And speaking of trends, are there any highlights in athletic fashion you’ve seen happening?

A Athletic fashion has now crossed over and become daily fashion as well. Trainers are worn with everyday clothes and athletic gear is fashionable to wear outside the gym as well. Bright colours are very in, crazy patterns and see-through patches. Never before has ath- letic gear been as cool as it is now. I loved partnering with Marshalls for that very reason. So much to choose from and to mix and match without taking a hit on your wallet.

Q What’s your go-to workout outfit?

A I want to have certain things like shoes that are light and support me from both sides, bottoms that have a thick and high waist band so they never fall down and a bra that holds me in. I do not want to have to fix my clothing while I train. Also, if you have training gear that you find cool looking, it does serve as a motivator.

Q Any advice for those who are looking to get new gear on a budget?

A Nowadays, there are so many styles and options out there, and especially with shops like Marshalls, where you get quality training clothes without breaking the bank. For any genre of training, you will find the best gear in all shapes and sizes. I am constantly in training clothes and love to coordinate my outfit.
