POWER RANKINGS WEEK 13

-

1 (1) Calgary

The Stamps have gone to OT three times this season, going 2-0-1. They just know how to win. And they’re so confident in first-round draft pick Alex Singleton that the Canadian is their new starting middle linebacker.

2 (2) B.C.

The Lions have lost three games this season, and two of them have come against the Stampeders. So it’s probably best they build up as much momentum as possible going into the playoffs. The Leos have two amazing defenders in Solomon Elimimian and Adam Bighill, but that offence might be their best weapon.

3 (4) Winnipeg

That’s six wins in a row and counting for the Blue and Gold, who unloaded former No. 1 quarterback Drew Willy and his fat contract to the Argos for defensive back T.J. Heath, a first-round draft pick and a third-rounder. Then, in order to have a veteran backup quarterback, they plucked Kevin Glenn out of Montreal for a fourth-round pick. Matt Nichols is 6-0 since taking over for Willy.

4 (3) Hamilton

The Ticats saw former teammate Dan LeFevour win his first CFL start in more than two years. Argos defensive coach Rich Stubler showed why he’s the crafty vet, putting together a game plan that had Zach Collaros flummoxed. The Ticats need to get their special teams figured out for the stretch drive, but they’ll be fine.

5 (5) Ottawa

The Redblacks had the bye week. Jerrell Gavins and Arnaud Gascon-Nadon were back on the practice field Tuesday, although it’s not yet known if they’ll be ready to go for the game in Calgary. The Redblacks have been very ordinary so far this season. It’s time for Trevor Harris and Co. to declare if they’re going to be contenders or pretenders in an East Division that is wide open.

6 (7) Toronto

The Boatmen were the only one of the three Labour Day Classic losers to win their rematch, and they did it with new QB Dan LeFevour. With Drew Willy added via a trade, it’ll be interesting to see who plays quarterback down the stretch and if the Boatmen stay in the playoff race.

7 (6) Edmonton

The Eskies were oh so close to beating the Stampeders on Saturday and keeping pace with the Bombers for the sixth and final playoff spot, but the cream rose to the top in overtime. Five of their remaining seven matches are on the road, including trips to Hamilton and Vancouver. The Green and Gold are an average 2-2 away from Commonwealth in a season that features five teams with winning road records.

8 (8) Saskatchewan

They are so close, yet so far from that elusive second victory of the season. Quarterback Darian Durant hasn’t won a start in more than two years, and his name has come up in trade rumours. Do the Riders cut bait with Durant and start grooming someone younger, or do they re-sign their No. 1 gun as they get ready to move into their new stadium?

9 (9) Montreal

What a mess it is these days. Jim Popp says he won’t be coaching next year. The Als have two games remaining against both Hamilton and Calgary. Gulp.
