SERVICE EXPANSIONS PLANNED

-

This week’s service expansion is the first announced in connection with the initial phase of a 10-Year Vision for Metro Vancouver Transportation. It includes the following:

Expo and Millennium Lines: Weekday peak-hour service has been extended by 15 minutes in the morning and one hour in the evening. On weekends, improvements to service during mid-day and early evenings means trains will run every three to six minutes. Millennium Line service from Lafarge Lake-Douglas station will begin earlier starting Jan. 22.

Canada Line: Canada Line trains are available and users will see trains more frequently during peak hours on weekdays, which will hopefully decrease waiting times and help to reduce overcrowding.

SeaBus: Service has been doubled on Sundays and holidays, with sailings every 15 minutes from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Currently, the SeaBus runs every 30 minutes on Sundays and holidays. Surrey LRT and Broadway

subway: Consultation will begin on these two projects next week — Jan. 24 and 28, respectively.

ON THE HORIZON IN 2017

Buses: A 10 per cent increase in bus service is due to happen in April.

HandyDart: A 15 per cent service increase will take place later this year.

SeaBus: Once staff have been hired and trained, SeaBus will sail every 15 minutes during the day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Improvements to the major road network.

Cycling and walking network upgrades.
