Pattullo Bridge to have extended lane closure

- JENNIFER SALTMAN jensaltman@postmedia.com twitter.com/jensaltman

This weekend, the regular Saturday night lane closures on the Pattullo Bridge will be extended into Sunday afternoon so that crews can inspect the bridge deck.

There will be single-lane traffic in each direction on the bridge from 10 p.m. on Saturday until 1 p.m. on Sunday. Normally, the lanes reopen at 5 a.m. During the lane closures, there may be traffic delays and pattern changes.

The extended closure is weather dependent. The inspection is required as part of the warranty for work that was carried out last year. The bridge experienced partial and temporary closures for four months while the deck was repaired.

The repairs were made to extend the life of the almost 80-year-old span between Surrey and New Westminster while a replacement bridge is designed and built. TransLink will continue to regularly inspect the bridge and make repairs as needed.

Intermittent railing repair work is also underway and will continue until the spring. During weeks when railing repairs occur, overnight crews will start the regular overnight lane closures one hour earlier at 9 p.m. (reopening at 5 a.m.), Sunday through Thursday.
